Just thought I'd share a positive experience. I just loaded the latest beta on my Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop. Every single device was properly detected, including the ATI X300 video card, the Intel 2915abg wireless card, the Broadcom network card, the Conextant modem and even the Bluetooth card.
So far, it's just a pretty XP :), but it is working well.

perfect install here, too. HP ZV6000 CTO laptop, Broadcom 802.11G wireless, bluetooth, ATI X200M, memory card reader, HP Photosmart 7850 Printer.
I had problems installing XP, it was kind of a surprise to see Vista go in so smoothly.

Hi Tom,
I'm really glad to see your post. I also have an Inspiron 9300 and am eager to try out Vista Beta 2. When I run Vista Upgrade advisor though, it tells me that I a driver is available from Microsoft Update for my SigmaTel C-Major Audio (SIGMATEL STAC 975X AC97). But when I go to Microsoft Update, it finds absolutely nothing! (I have done Custom search of course). When I go to Dell's Drivers and Downloads section, and look for drivers for my notebook model, it gives the latest version as A03 5.10.0.4255 which is what I have under Device Manager! Also, trying to Update Driver through Device Manager hasn't done anything. Everything else under Vista Upgrade advisor is perfect, but I can't risk sacrificing sound! Can anyone give me advice on what to do? Could you tell me what driver version your running for your sound card? Perhaps Microsoft Update will only make the update available once I've upgraded to Vista...

Hi Tom,
I'm so glad to see your post! I also have a Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop and am eager to try out Vista Beta 2. I'm a bit worried though because when I run Vista Upgrade Advisor it tells me that I need a driver from Microsoft Update for my SigmaTel C-Major Audio which is a SIGMATEL STAC 975X AC97. But when I go to Microsoft Update it doesn't show a single listing for anything. When I visit Dell's Downloads and Drivers section, and look for drivers for my computer, I see that the latest version is A03 which is what I have! Specifically I have driver version 5.10.0.4255 as given under Device Manager ~ also, when I try to Update Driver from Device Manager, it finds nothing. Everything else in Vista Upgrade Advisor is perfect but I can't risk sacrificing sound! Can you tell me what driver you're using for your sound card?

I too have an Inspiron 9300 and I also had no problems installing it. About the sound, it found and installed the drivers for my SigmaTel audio. I haven't been able to get my headphones or the front media buttons to work, but I haven't tried very hard. If the original poster's buttons work, could you post how you got them to work?
The biggest problem I had was trying to install it three times on an external HD before finding out that it isn't possible. :p. I then had to split my HD partition into two which I had never done before. However, it worked perfectly and my install on it went perfectly.

Yes, that's how it works. Once I did a Windows Update IN VISTA, it found a new driver for the modem.

Oops, forgot the second question. Sound works flawlessly. Worked on the first boot. I saw Sigmatel and thought modem.
So, the modem has a new driver in Windows Update, but the Sigmatel sound is supported right at the start.

The front buttons start to work AFTER you've run Media Center and gone through settings. Weird huh.
Haven't tried headphones.

Evening Everyone...
I too have had a very good experience with Vista on my 9300... Except for the sound. I have a great set of headphones that I listen to my library of music with and Vista won't let me use them. The speakers work just fine, as well as the fron media buttons. I just can't get the headphone jack working. I have Vista and XP Pro on two swappable laptop drives, so, thinking I was losing my mind, switched the drives back over to XP. No problem. I've tried the driver from XP in Vista to no avail... any idea's anyone??
